Day 7 - Greybull, Wyoming to West Yellowstone, Montana

Day 7 – Greybull, WY to West Yellowstone, MT

We left Greybull and after about an hour stopped in Cody, WY (named after Buffalo Bill Cody) and ate breakfast at Granny’s Family Dining. We loved our waitress, Sue, who basically acted like our mother and told us what to order! We then drove on to Yellowstone National Park. The drive from Cody to Yellowstone National Park was awesome—we followed rivers and mountains through some of the nicest terrain we have seen so far.

We spent the rest of the day in Yellowstone, which is amazing for many reasons. There’s the sheer size of the place, the wildlife that is everywhere (we saw lots of bison and deer, but we didn’t get to see any bears), and the “geothermal” features—hot springs, mud holes, and the geysers. We even saw and touched some snow shortly after entering the park! We stopped off the main road and parked near a stream and had lunch. We let Duncan off the leash for a little bit, and he LOVED it (see the exciting video below!!). We also took a small trail to see Upper Falls in the “Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.”

We left the park (knowing we would be back the next day) and checked into the City Center Motel in West Yellowstone, MT. A few days ago, we had heard from our high school friend, Sara, that she and her husband, Ronen, were vacationing in Yellowstone. We ended up meeting them for dinner that night at the Timberline Café in West Yellowstone. It’s nice to know we can travel 2,500 miles to meet up with old friends back home. We ended the night with some yummy Huckleberry ice cream, which is quite the rage (so we hear) in this part of the country.
